The issue of social resources has drawn people’s attention during the pandemic, which has brought new challenges for grass-roots senior citizens who need extra support from the community. Many of them have felt stressed physically and mentally as they have been overwhelmed by the needs to maintain their social life, procure everyday necessities and anti-pandemic supplies, ensure household hygiene and get medical consultations and prescriptions.

Enhance elderly services through concerted effort

According to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong’s population of elderly aged 65 or above is about 1.5 million, accounting for 20% of the total population. The number will increase by another 550,000 in the next decade. However, the existing social resources are insufficient to meet the increasing needs. Formed by members from different backgrounds, the Jade Club strives to pool social capital by connecting the social welfare and business sectors so as to support active ageing and fulfil the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the elderly through a new model of elderly care.

Collaborate with businesses to facilitate digital transformation

During the pandemic, we moved some of our projects online and introduced the elderly to the digital world. For instance, we launched the popular livestream programme “JTV” where our senior members would share their lives or family recipes. Besides, we also worked with Maxim’s Group under the Corporate Partnership Scheme to present “Virtual Yum Cha.” Three elderly day-care centres were transformed into the famous “Maxim’s Palace'' restaurants where the elderly could meet their friends and enjoy the classic dim sum served by staff members pushing the dim sum carts. These simple yet meaningful activities indeed showed our care for the elderly in a heart-warming and creative way.

The Jade Club would love to spread our passion for elderly care and will continue to enhance our innovative, high-quality, and sustainable service model that allows the elderly to enjoy active ageing through a wide range of inspiring activities.
