As the three landfills in Hong Kong are expected to be filled up in the coming years , it is vital for businesses and the public to step up the efforts to reduce waste and practise recycling now. According to the Environmental Protection Department, Hong Kong’s daily municipal solid waste disposal rate was 1.44kg, surpassing other major cities. At Hongkong Land, we also join hands with our tenants in commercial buildings, such as at our shopping malls and office buildings, to reduce waste at the source and facilitate recycling, achieving our sustainability goalspromoting sustainability together.

Comprehensive facilities for efficient waste reduction and recycling

In order to minimise food waste, we work closely with restaurants and office tenants to collect food waste with specific collection bins under the “Food Waste Recycling Scheme”. The harvested food waste is then processed by the on-site food waste processing machines installed in office buildings and shopping malls, and converted into grey water. Filtered grey water will be used to irrigate our green roofs and other landscaping installations. Besides, to streamline the process of recycling, all buildings managed by Hongkong Land in Central have dedicated and centralised recycling collection facilities in our Refuse Processing Centres that collect non-confidential waste paper, aluminium cans, glass and plastic bottles, and fluorescent light tubes. These items will be collected and recycled by our partners regularly.
