The increasingly extreme climate-related disasters and COVID-19 pandemic have served as a wake-up call and made the world mindful and vigilant toward public health crises and worsening climate change, inspiring more people to go green. These factors have drawn the public’s attention to plant-based food and the idea of “having one plant-based diet per week” championed by Green Monday. Plant-based diet is also gaining popularity as more people try to reduce carbon emissions and conserve natural resources by changing their dietary habits.

One of the key sources of greenhouse gas emissions, the livestock sector emits about 710 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per annum, accounting for 14.5% of all human-induced emissions . In view of the aggravating climate issues, we would like to revolutionise food production and lower the impact on the environment and ecosystem. Hong Kong has the highest meat consumption per capita in the world, but many people are not aware of the impact of a meat-based diet on the environment and our health. In fact, by adopting a plant-based diet for a day every week, we can reduce carbon emissions and lower the risks of certain health problems.

With an aim to promote plant-based diet to people from all walks of life, our foodtech company OmniFoods is dedicated to developing foodtech with no cruelty, cholesterol, anti-biotics or hormone, and offering plant-based meat comprised of a proprietary blend of plant-based proteins. OmniFoods also strives to offer a wide range of products, including the best known OmniPork, OmniPork Strip, the popular OmniPork Luncheon, and the OmniSeafood series unveiled on the World Oceans Day on 8 June, 2021. These “Future Food” options offer endless culinary possibilities. For instance, the incredibly tender and juicy OmniPork can be seasoned, steamed (a common Asian application), pan-fried, stir-fried, deep-fried or made into meatballs. The delicious OmniPork Strip can be incorporated into many favourite dishes, such as vermicelli with pork strips and preserved vegetables, noodles with pork strips (zhajiangmian), stir-fried spaghetti with assorted meat strips, Shanghai fried noodles with pork strips, and more. These tantalising recipes can easily satisfy busy city-dwellers’ craving for meat.

In addition to the pioneering OmniFoods, we also advocate a simple, impactful, and easy-to-adopt low-carbon lifestyle that can help alleviate global warming and food crisis, and raise people’s awareness of health and animal welfare. We have collaborated with restaurants (e.g. Maxim’s) to offer and promote plant-based meals. These partnerships with chains are a big step since it makes plant-based food easily accessible. Our goal is to ease climate change by changing people’s diets with more plant-based options.

We have many exciting innovations in the pipeline, and, together with Green Monday and Green Common, we will continue to promote sustainable living and healthy diets, highlighting the benefits of a vegan-based lifestyle. Meanwhile, we will work even closer with our partners to encourage consumers to embrace the “Go Green” philosophy starting with their diets, safeguarding their wellbeing and protecting our planet at the same time.
