Greeners Action has been actively raising the awareness of the public about various environmental issues, including waste reduction at the source, plastic pollution, and food waste management. We have worked closely with different partners to initiate projects promoting a green life and to encourage the public to make small changes in everyday life that can contribute towards the conservation of natural resources.

Check out the following tips if you want to enjoy a greener life:

Conserve resources and reduce waste at the source: we can stop using disposable plastic items by bringing our own bottles and food containers, using the water dispensers provided by restaurants (like Maxim's MX) or sports venues, and using fewer disposable straws, drink stirrers and plastic umbrella bags. These seemingly small changes can effectively facilitate  carbon emissions reduction in the long run.

Clean recycling and reuse: many items and packaging materials can be recycled or reused, such as the red packets, beverage cartons, plastic bottles, mooncake boxes, and toner and ink cartridges. For instance, we collected 5.61 million red packets in 2021 with the help of different organisations and turned them into 3.37 million “Reborn Lai See” in 2022, better utilising the resources to reduce waste.

Reduce food waste and cherish food: we can unleash our creativity and create delicious dishes using the leftovers.  We should only order what we can eat and minimise any food waste in order to reduce waste at the source. Less food waste means that landfills will release a smaller amount of methane, which is the third major greenhouse gas in Hong Kong.

Let’s embrace a green life together by taking small yet important steps. All these green habits will help drive Hong Kong towards a greener future.
